I am also agree with you .A good planning does not mean that it should be made by investment of almost all hours in hand.It can be made in few minutes too and we can get good result after implementing it with fun.

Depends on how you define "budgeting and planning." I probably spend an hour or so a week entering transactions in Excel and Quicken. Once a month I spend an additional hour reconciling accounts. I'm spending a lot less time now that I've automated almost all my various transfers and recurring payments.

On planning: seems like I think about it half my waking hours. I'm always thinking how to optimize the budget. Occasionally I'll sit down to renegotiate my plans and come up with some new adaptaion.

"The Millionaire next Door" is a awesome read! It should be required reading in High School at least (wasn't that impressed with "The Millionaire Mind" - seemed to repeat a lot of the same topics).

I spend a heck of a lot more time than 8.4 hours a month on my finances and investments. heck, I probably spend that much time a week!

Things come up in life you can't control. Would be nice to be able to plan for everything, every expenditure. But you can't. NTL, I agree that effective savers and investors are much more planning and contemplative than less effective ones.
